On Wednesday 13th December Nailsea played it’s first match of the season versus the Trowbridge Hawks; a combination of signature strong defense and several players clicking on offense made sure it was a game to remember.

The Nailsea team came out with all guns blazing, torching Trowbridge for twenty-seven points in a run-and-gun offensive style. Confident inside play from young forward Nick Oldfield made scoring against the smaller Hawks side look easy, missed shots were frequently gathered off the offensive glass and put back for second chance points. Captain and game MVP Jason Boulton continued his consistent play to lead the team with twenty points.

In the second quarter it was Boulton’s inside drives which would keep Nailsea in front. The Hawk’s offense, which had been limited to thirteen points in the first quarter, came out with more of a spark and hit some tough shots. The home team soon put the clamps back on, and led comfortably at the half.

For the second consecutive game Si Baker proved to be Nailsea’s best scoring option in the third quarter, after a relatively quiet first half the hot shooting guard scored the first six points of the half with a selection of mid-range jump shots from different spots on the floor. The Hawks continued to play hard throughout the quarter, but could not contain Nailsea’s fast paced offense.

Going into the fourth quarter the game was already out of reach for the away side, Nailsea’s focused defense holding the Hawks under fifty points and forcing turnovers which led to numerous fast break points. Forward Nick Oldfield finished with seventeen points and was one of three Nailsea players to score in double figures. The final score underlined what had been a dominating performance by Nailsea in all areas of the game, and provided a fitting end to a winning year for the team.

Nailsea now heads into the Christmas break riding a three game winning streak and sitting at the top of the league standings, with five regular season games remaining the team now has it’s sights set firmly on promotion to the second division.
