It’s game time!

Friday 26th January 2007: a date that will go down in Nailsea Basketball’s history. It’s make or break. Do or die. It’s the big game.

Every season in every league in every sport around the world there will be games like this Friday’s. It’s likely to be the defining moment of the season (assuming we don’t lose all our remaining games….) and possibly the difference between winning the league and being runner up.

There’s been some worrying about it from some people, and it’s likely that the nerves will be a bit more frayed than they would be before any other game. I think the important thing for us all to remember is that it is just another game, oh and we’ve already beaten them once! I am looking forward to it just like I do all our games, hopefully we’ll all come home with that nice glow inside us from winning.

Anyone been paying much attention to the NBA? I’ve got tireless enthusiasm for it, but apparently the folks on the other side of the water don’t pay any attention until after the all-star break. Well anyone who has been looking at it will have seen Miami (defending champions) looking pretty lost without the injured Shaquille O’Neal, Dallas looking like they WILL win it all this year and the Phoenix Suns playing their usual hundred mile an hour offense. The difference is that this year a lot more people seem to think they can run their way to the finals, there’s just one reason for this: Amare Stoudemire. He’s back, and he’s immense.

Finally, a big thanks to everyone who’s been turning up to the Sunday sessions at Scotch Horn, most people have been at least once or twice and it’s great to see such enthusiasm for the game. I know certain people who haven’t made it so far would like to be there, but we all have our other commitments! Now if I could only work out why I play so much better on Sunday than on Wednesday I’d be a happy man.
