Nailsea begun the 2007-08 season in style with a convincing victory over their first Division 2 rivals of the year. The Nailsea team came out to a fast and strong start, and maintained an aggressive pace and pressure throughout most of the game. The final score ended 92 - 66, with Nick Oldfield picking up MVP honours.
The scoring was lead by Angus Roach with 20, Jason Boulton with 16; and backed by excellent performances from Jake Watkins (12) and Jon Moore (10). The game saw many fast break opportunities for the Nailsea team, who have trained hard throughout the off-season. New team members Gus, Nick and Steve deserve a mention for their integration into the team so early on.
Nailsea kick of the new basketball season with their first game in Division 2, this week at home against Aces. The match will mark the beginning of the 0708 season for Nailsea, and takes place at Scotch Horn Leisure Centre (Nailsea) @ 8pm. All supporters welcome as ever!!
Nailsea Basketball played their first game of the 2007/08 season, in a pre-season friendly against Division 1 team, Worle. The match took place at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre, and gave both teams the chance to warm up for the forthcoming season. The Nailsea team gave a strong performance throughout, showing good team-work and a passion to compete. The final score was 67 - 55 to Worle, but the game remained close and competitive throughout.
Nick Oldfield led the Nailsea team with 12 points on the night, with supporting scoring coming from Simon Baker and Brian Gleeson, both with 11. Nailsea’s first official match of the season is a little under 2 weeks away.
A quick reminder that Nailsea Basketball have their first friendly of the new season against Division 1 team, Worle. This will take place away at Worle, at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre.
Directions and a map can be found here and postcode for the location is ‘BS22 8LY’. We have the court from 8pm, but aiming to meet there about 7.45pm. Join in discussion on the messageboard if you need lifts or want to clarify any details.
Two friendly games have been arranged for the above dates, times are still to be confirmed but the dates are set.
The first game is away at Clevedon; presumably this will be the side which a depleted Nailsea team of myself, Jon, Matt, Keiran and Simon played during the summer. They are a young side looking to join a league in the near future and it would be fantastic if we could send a good strong team to give them a flavour of what they’ll be facing.
This will be the last chance to get a full game under your belt prior to the season, so a good opportunity to show how ready you are.
See the message board where there is a thread to register your interest in playing!
Game two is away at Bath Academy; this is a team we played once before at Nailsea. It would be good to have enough players that we can actually have a bench, this is an under 18s side so they’re probably pretty quick! This game falls three days after our first league match of the season, so will be a good chance for those of us who don’t get selected for that game to log some minutes in a proper game situation.
As for the Clevedon game there is a thread on the message board to register your availability.
The first game is only just over a week away so let’s get an idea of who’ll be playing ASAP.
