Nailsea Basketball has now completed their second season in the WEBBA league, being crowned champions for the second year in a row, this time in Division 2. Normal training will commence again around September time, and will hopefully continue at Scotch Horn Leisure Centre in Nailsea on a Wednesday night, 8 - 10pm. Sessions are run by player-coach Jason Boulton and offer a mixture of drills, training and practice games.
In the off-season during the Summer, we will be entering 2 teams into the South West Summer league tournaments. This will be friendly and casual play, with games taking place on either Tue or Thur nights.

On Friday 25th April, Nailsea Basketball travelled to Newport in what would be a fitting end to the 2007/08 season. Having placed second in the Division behind Newport, and handing the home team their only defeat of the season a few weeks prior, Nailsea arrived confident and ready for the final of the play-offs. The game was back and forth throughout, with both teams holding up to a 9 point lead over the other at some points in the game. The half time score saw Nailsea up 48 - 41, but with a lot left to do if they wanted to secure their second championship trophy.
By the end of regulation time, Nailsea were down 2 points with only 4 seconds remaining on the clock. Two clutch free-throws from game MVP Dan Roach secured the team’s second overtime period of the season, ironically against the team they had taken to overtime a few weeks before in the regular season competition. The regulation time score ended 87 - 87, and the pressure was on for both teams. A 5 minute overtime period did little to separate the teams, but a final shot from top-scoring Jon Moore (21 pts) put Nailsea up a point with 97, before Dave Beesley was sent to the line to secure a final free-throw and a 2 point cushion. Newport were unable to capitalise on a final possession, and the game ended 98 - 96 in Nailsea’s favour.
The game was characterised by Nailsea’s varied and high pressure defense, with a mix of man-to-man and zone D being played to keep the home team on their toes. Scoring was lead by the inside presence of Jon Moore with 21, while game MVP Dan Roach and Nick Ball provided 15 points each with some hot outside shooting.
Nailsea have now won the Division 2 playoffs and have put themselves in a good position for a hopeful promotion to Division 1 next season. Decisions regarding league structures will not happen til later in the summer.
Nailsea are in the 2007/08 Division 2 play-offs final this week competing against first place Newport! The match will take place in Newport this Friday on the 25th April. Newport finished the season in first place, with their only defeat at the hands of Nailsea in their penultimate game of the season. Nailsea finished in second place, and so the play-offs final seems vey fitting.
Come and support Nailsea in action this Friday, in Newport at 8.15pm tip-off. See messageboard for information.
Nailsea played in the first round of the 2008 play-offs tonight, at home in Scotch Horn Leisure Centre. They faced the team who finished third place in the league this year, Empees, who they had defeated on 2 occasions during the regular season. The game ended with a comfortable 78 - 47 point victory for the Nailsea side, meaning they advance to the final of the play-offs to face the winner of the Newport / Redcliffe match this Friday. Game MPV honours went to Angus Roach with 10 points, supported by Dan Roach who had a game high 18 points, and by the hot outside shooting of Nick Ball (13).
The first round of the play-offs will take place for Nailsea Basketball on Wednesday 16th April. Finishing second in the league this year with a record of 10 wins and 4 losses, Nailsea will face third placed team Empees. Nailsea will play at home for the first round of the tournament, and will face the winners of the Newport vs. Redcliffe match being held on Friday 18th April.

Final league standings, Div 2:
The WEBAA summer league will be taking place 19th May for 9 weeks (regular season). It has been suggested that Nailsea Basketball enter 2 teams, 1st and 2nd (thereabouts) if the numbers work our right, if not we just mix and match. There will be plenty of chance for minutes in these games and everyone is encouraged to join in.
It will cost £22.50 per person (based on 2 x 8 teams) but may vary dependent on how many sign up. The matches will run Tues and Thurs every week with 2 pools playing on respective nights. Game 1 @ 7pm, 2 @ 8pm, 3 @ 9pm. A T-shirt will also part of the deal.
Please state on the Messageboard discussion if you would like to play, plus preference of night and T-shirt size.
Nailsea travelled to play Redcliffe away last night in their last game of the season. The game was fairly slow throughout with some physical and broken play in the second half. The game ended 54 - 65. MVP honours went to Jason Boulton who had 13 points, and was backed by a game high 17 points from Angus Roach. Nailsea have now finished their regular season games and have finished second in Division 2. The play-offs begin in a couple of weeks.
