Filton Knock Nailsea Out of the Cup in Quarter Finals, 100 - 53

February 21, 2008 on 6:36 pm | In General

Last night saw Nailsea face their toughest opposition to date, in the form of the Division 1 powerhouse that is Filton. The team faced off in Nailsea at Scotch Horn on Wednesday 20th Feb, with the final score ending 100 - 53. This was the third Cup match Nailsea had played this year, after victories against Empees and the Wizards in earlier rounds. Being the only non-Division 1 team left in the tournament was always going to prove a challenge to the Nailsea team, but they came out fighting and put on a decent performance. The second half was better than the first, where Nailsea struggled against a young, fast team, who applied a full court press throughout most of the game.

This round up would not be complete without mentioning a fantastic alley-oop dunk passed from Jason to Gus late in the 4th, which he proceeded to dunk on top of one of the Filton players to the delight of the whole team and raucous Nailsea home crowd! Thanks to the fans as ever for their continued (and VERY loud) support!

Nailsea Suffer Slow Start to Trophy Tournament

January 31, 2008 on 4:48 pm | In General

Nailsea have played their first two games of this year’s trophy tournament over the last fortnight. Last week they faced Division 3 rivals from last year, Totterdown, who were responsible for Nailsea’s only defeat in their first season! The trophy tournament sees point head starts awarded to one team to take into consideration current division positions, and so Totterdown begun the game with a 7 point lead. The final score was 61 - 51 to Totterdown, with Jason Boulton picking up MVP honours and 14 points for Nailsea. This was a difficult start to the group stage of the trophy tournament for Nailsea, with a busy schedule coming up to complete their other games.

Game Stats:

Last night in Nailsea, the team faced Division 3 team, Pirates B, who begun the match with a substantial 38 point head start. While the Pirates team had only 5 players in the game, they played with good strength, and despite periods of excellent defense and intensity, Nailsea were unable to claw back many points. The head start affected the Nailsea team’s mentality, and the game ended with Pirates up 95 - 56. Nailsea player Jake Watkins picked up MVP honours and a team high 16 points.

Game Stats:

The trophy tournament continues tomorrow night (1/2/08) with a tough game against Division 1 Worle, away at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre. The trophy then continues with a home match next Wednesday vs Knights, before the final first round match against the A&S Police away, the following Wednesday.
